Lawn Maintenance & Mowing

Grass in the Bahamas does not stop. There is no dormant winter to buy you a few months off, so a lawn left for five or six weeks in the wet season is not a mow — it is a cleanup, and it is priced like one. Regular visits are cheaper than rescue visits, which is the main argument for putting the property on a schedule.
We cut at a height suited to the grass you actually have. Bahama grass and St Augustine want different things, and scalping either one in full sun is how you end up with brown patches and an invitation for weeds. Clippings are cleared from paths and driveways before we leave.

Hedge & Bush Trimming

A hedge that is trimmed often keeps its shape and stays thick to the base. One that is left until it is well over height has to be cut back hard, and depending on the species it may sit bare for months before it fills in again. Frequency is doing most of the work here.
Coastal properties add a complication: salt-laden wind burns the windward face, so growth is uneven and the shape has to be cut to what the plant will actually sustain rather than to a straight line on the drawing.

Tree Trimming & Removal

The job most worth booking is the one before hurricane season. Dead fronds, weak limbs and anything overhanging a roof, a driveway or a power line is what turns a storm into damage. Between June and November that work gets harder to schedule because everyone wants it at once — the sensible window is the dry months before.
Removal is a separate decision from trimming and we will say which one a tree needs. Where a tree is close to a structure or a line, the safe method is sectional dismantling rather than felling, and we will tell you when a job is beyond what we should be doing rather than take it on regardless.

Garden Design & Planting

Most planting that fails here fails for one of two reasons: the wrong species for its exposure, or a bed that was never properly made up. New Providence soil is thin over limestone in a lot of places, so a bed usually needs building rather than digging, with topsoil and compost brought in and depth enough for roots to hold water.
Species selection does the rest. Close to the water, salt tolerance decides everything — sea grape, coconut palm, bougainvillea, crotons and oleander earn their place. Further inland the palette opens up, and we will happily plant something more demanding if you want it, on the understanding that it will need more from you.

Yard Cleanups & Property Maintenance

A cleanup is the right service when the property has got past the point where a mow will do — overgrowth, accumulated debris, beds lost under weeds. We clear it, take the waste away and leave it at a standard a regular schedule can hold. Most people take the schedule afterwards, because the second cleanup is always avoidable.
Ongoing property maintenance matters most for houses and villas that sit empty between visits or bookings. Harbour Island in particular is full of properties whose owners are not on the island — the grounds still have to be guest-ready on arrival day, and that only happens if somebody is there on a schedule rather than on request.

Patio & Pathway Installation

What separates a patio that lasts from one that moves is entirely underneath it — excavation depth, a compacted base, and a fall that takes water away from the house rather than towards it. Rain here arrives hard and fast in the wet season, and paving laid straight onto sand finds that out quickly.

Irrigation Installation & Maintenance

Water is not cheap in Nassau, and a badly set system is the most expensive way to keep a lawn green. The two things that make the difference are timing and zoning: watering before sunrise so it soaks in rather than evaporating off, and separating lawn, beds and pots so each gets what it needs instead of everything getting what the thirstiest thing needs.

Fast-draining sandy and limestone ground changes the maths again — short, frequent cycles run off and evaporate, while longer, less frequent soaks reach the root zone. We set the controller with that in mind and show you how to change it between the wet and dry seasons rather than leaving it on one programme all year.

How we price

What changes the number on the estimate

The size of the property

Obvious, but it is the biggest single factor. Lot size and how much of it is planted rather than paved decide most of the time on site.

How long it has been left

A regular cut and a first-visit clearance are different jobs. The clearance costs more once, and then the schedule costs less than the clearance did.

Access

Narrow gates, steep ground and long carries to where the truck can park all add time. It is worth mentioning when you call.

How much waste leaves with us

Hauling and disposal is real cost. A cleanup that fills the truck twice is priced differently from one that half-fills it once.

Frequency

Scheduled work is cheaper per visit than call-outs, because the property never gets far enough away from tidy to need catching up.

Season

Wet-season growth needs more visits than dry-season growth. We would rather adjust the pattern than charge you for visits the grass does not need.

Questions we get asked

Can I book just one service?

Yes. Plenty of clients only want the lawn cut, or only want the trees dealt with before hurricane season. Nothing here is bundled and you are not signing up for a package.

If the property is currently tidy, a schedule keeps it that way and is the cheaper option over a year. If it has got away from you, you need a cleanup first and then a schedule. We will tell you which situation you are in when we look at it.
Yes, for planting, mulch, topsoil and paving we supply and install. If you would rather buy the plants yourself we can work that way too — just say so at estimate stage so the price reflects it.

We trim and remove a lot of trees, and we will tell you honestly when one is beyond what we should take on — typically where it is very large and tight against a building or a power line. Turning that work down is safer for you and for us than attempting it.

A badly programmed one will, considerably. A well-zoned system watering before sunrise usually uses less water than hand-watering the same planting, because almost none of it is lost to evaporation and nothing gets watered twice.

Let's get the property back under control

One-off work gets booked in and done. Scheduled work gets a visit pattern that suits the season — closer together through the wet months, further apart when growth slows in the dry season.
